Logo of Bangabandhu SAFF Championship unveiled

The 6th SAFF championship named after father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be held December 4-14 at the country's premier sports venue Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city, reports UNB.
The official announcement came about the biggest South Asian meet, presented by Beximco Group, at a ceremony marking the unveiling of the meet's logo at a city hotel Thursday afternoon.
SAFF vice-president Monilal Fernando unveiled the logo with SAFF president Kazi Salahuddin, Beximco group deputy chairman and industrialist Salman F Rahman and World Sports Group vice-president Yung Mathew present at the function.
Salman F Rahman, also chairman of Abahani Limited, said they have already come forward to promote country's sports in all fields.
"Our main objective is to establish Bangladesh as an internationally playing country in the world," he said.
SAFF vice-president Monilal Fernando wished every success of the championship and requested SAFF president Kazi Salahuddin to carry on with the championship in the name of Bangabandhu in future as well.
The logo unveiling ceremony was followed by traditional dances performed by country's famed choreographers Shibly Mohammad and Shamim Ara Nipa along with other co-artists.
Hosts Bangladesh is placed in Group B of the SAFF Championship along with Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bhutan while the comparatively strong Group A comprises defending champions Maldives, three times champions India, and Nepal and Afghanistan.
Bangladesh will play their group opening match against Bhutan on December 4, the 2nd match against Pakistan on Dec. 6 and the 3rd match against Sri Lanka on Dec. 8.
The semifinals will be held on December 11 at BNS while the final is slated for December 15 at the same venue.
