Malan on BCB's shortlist for HP's coaching role

Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan is among the four candidates shortlisted by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the High Performance (HP) Unit's head coach post that went vacant after David Hemp joined the national men's senior team set-up as batting coach, reports Cricbuzz.

On February 27, BCB named Hemp, who was the HP Unit's head Coach since May 2023, as the batting coach of the Bangladesh men's team.

BCB is desperately looking for a replacement for Hemp as the HP programme is scheduled to start in the middle of May.

When contacted by the online sports portal on Wednesday, Malan did not rule out the possibility of taking up the new challenge totally.

"We will take the interview of the shortlisted coaches for the HP unit head in the coming week," BCB HP Unit chairman Naimur Rahman told the online sports portal.

It would be interesting to see if BCB will be keen to go for Malan considering he might not be available from the start of the HP camp as he is expected to guide the Ireland national cricket team in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled in USA and West Indies from June.

Apart from Malan, BCB is also considering three other names- Gavan Twining (Australia) Nathan Hauritz (Australia) and Paul Adams (South Africa).
