Manisha Mohanty earns GM norm in Parachute Chess

International Women Master Kiran Manisha Mohanty of India earned her norm for woman grandmaster and Women International Master Shamima Akter Liza of Narayanganj also bagged her International Woman Master Sunday at the conclusion of the Parachute Advanced International Chess Tournament, reports BSS.
This tournament was sponsored by Marico Bangladesh Limited held in association with Bangladesh Chess Federation and organised by Six Seasons Chess Tournaments Club which was held in the Conference-Room of Uni Resort at Cox's Bazar.
Kiran became unbeaten champion in this event after accumulating 7 points to clinch the title and her final woman grandmaster norm. It is the first International Woman Master norm for Liza. Liza earned 5 points from this event.
FM Abu Sufian Shakil of Biman became runner-up and FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman finished at the third spot. Shakil and Emon earned 5.5 points each.
In the other positions are: 4th-Shamima Akter Liza, 5 points, 5th-Minina Veronika of Russia, 5 points, 6th-Peter Long of Russia with 4.5 points, 7th-FM Mohammad Abdul Malek of Biman with 4.5 points.
8th- Dhyani Dave of India with 3.5 points, 9th-Saif Uddin Lavlu of Titas with 2.5 points and 10th-WFM Tanima Parveen of Chittagong with 2 points. The 9th or last round games were held here Sunday.
In the last round Kiran drew with Veronika, Shakil drew with Emon, Liza drew with Lavlu, Malek drew with Dhyani and Peter drew with Tanima.
A total of 10 players from India, Malaysia, Russia and Bangladesh participated in the event. The event was held in round-robin league system.
The Prize distribution was held here on Sunday evening. Shakeb Kamal Ahmed, Brand Manager of Marico Bangladesh Limited and Mokaddes Hossain, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation distributed prizes among the winners. Head of Six Seasons Grandmaster Niaz Murshed was also present.
