Barcelona star Lionel Messi leads the way at the top of the Champions League scoring charts as he looks to win Europe's biggest club competition for a fifth time, reports https://www.standard.co.uk/sport.

The Argentine, who is the Champions League's second all-time leading goalscorer, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, has 10 strikes already this campaign.

Bayern Munich man Robert Lewandowski also has eight goals, but with zero assists to Messi's three lies second, and will not improve upon that mark after his side were knocked out by Liverpool in the last 16.

Two of the competitions surprise stars, Ajax's Dusan Tadic and Porto's Moussa Marega, both have six goals to their name.

Ronaldo, who has been the Champions League's top scorer in seven different seasons, has recovered from a goal-shy group stage, where he scored just once in five games, to move into contention on six goals, helped by a last 16 hat-trick against Ateltico Madrid.

However, Ronaldo will not be able to add to his tally after Ajax knocked Juventus out.

Of the remaining teams left in the competition - Tottenham, Ajax, Barcelona and Liverpool - Messi is the heavy favourite to finish as top scorer, with Tadic trailing on six.

Liverpool trio Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all sit on four goals.
