Minhazuddin emerges unbeaten champion

IM Minhazuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy emerged unbeaten champion in the 40th National B Chess Championship which concluded Thursday at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room in the city, reports BSS.
Minhazuddin Sagar earned 9 points to clinch the title.
GM Mahtabuddin Ahmed Robin of Mohammedan Sporting Club became runner-up and Uten of Access Group finished 3rd with 8.5 points each.
Eight players earned 8 points each. Their positions were broken by tie-breaking system. In the tie-breaking system FM Debaraj Chaterjee of Titas Club became 4th, FM Aminul Islam of Navy 5th, FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed of Navy 6th, Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan of Mymensing 7th, CM Sohel Chowdhury of Leonine 8th and Masum Hossain of Fire-Service 9th.
In the tie-breaking system FM Rezaul Haque of Access Group became 10th and FM Mohammad Javed of Leonine became 11th with 8 points each and failed to qualify.
In the 11th or last round games, Minhaz drew with Amin, Uten beat Debaraj, Robin drew with Sohel, Nasir drew with Mostafa, Masum beat Md Abu Hanif, Reza beat Mohammad Sagar, Javed beat Ikramul Haq Siam and Saiful Islam Chowdhury drew with Md Khorshed Alam. The games of the 40th Berger Paints National Chess Championship will start from 20th September.
Meanwhile, Top nine players have qualified for the 40th Berger Paints National A Chess Championship.
Five grandmasters reigning champion Abdullah Al Rakib, runner-up Zaiur Rahman, Enamul Hossain, Niaz Murshed and Reefat Bin Sattar have been invited to participate in national A directly.
