Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz handed his 'man of the series' prize money for the Pakistan Test series to the family of a rickshaw puller who was martyred during the student-led Anti-Discrimination movement, report agencies.
Miraz was key behind Bangladesh's landmark 2-0 series victory over Pakistan.
Mehidy dropped a note on his Facebook page with a picture along with the rickshaw puller's family. The 26-year-old said after he came across a video on social media where he saw the rickshaw puller's son cry, he pledged to donate his prize money to the family and help them out.
"A video that went online recently caught my eyes. The crying voice of a rickshaw driver brother's child in the anti-discriminatory student movement after his father was killed has made me think again and again. I vowed to stand by my brother's family. I promised that I will hand over the money for the 'Man of the Series' award in Pakistan," Mehidy wrote in a post.
"Finally, that goal is fulfilled. I was able to hand over this money to them yesterday. I know, this means nothing compared to the lost life. I will be glad if I am able to make their life a little easier," Mehidy added.
Mehidy was in stupendous form as Bangladesh beat Pakistan 2-0 in the Test series. He scored 155 runs at an average of 77.50 and a strike-rate of 51.15 with two half-centuries to his name. His top score of 78 came in the opening Test in Rawalpindi, where the Tigers won by 10 wickets.
