Mohammedan, Abahani make good start

League leaders Moha-mmedan SC and holders Abahani Limited made good start in the six-team super league of the Ispahani Tea Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket that began Thursday, reports UNB.
Both the matches started late due to foggy weather and reduced to 34 and 27 overs respectively.
Mohammedan SC notched a six-wicket victory over 6th-placed Cricket Coaching School (CCS) at the Fatullah Stadium, while captain Shakib Al Hasan's all round performance guided Abahani Limited to an emphatic seven-wicket win over Victoria SC at the BKSP in Savar.
Sent in to bat first, Cricket Coaching School (CCS) were dismissed for 152 runs in curtailed 34 overs with two down Nizamuddin scoring 40 runs off 63 balls that featured two fours and a six.
Nazmul Hossain (29), Uttam Sarker (26), Tariquzzaman (13), Shahbaz Butt (13) and Syed Rasel (10) were the other major contributors for CCS.
Pakistani international Rana Naved Ul Hasan grabbed four wickets for 35 runs in seven overs to be adjudged man of the match, while Saqlain Sajib took two wickets for 22 runs.
In reply, Mohammedan SC easily reached their target scoring 155 runs in 30 overs for the loss four wickets with Nafees Iqbal contributing not out 56 off 62 balls that included four fours and a six.
Besides, former national skipper Mohammad Ashraful scored 82-ball 46 runs with two boundaries, opener Shamsur Rahman made 21 off 22 balls with four fours and Foysal Hossain made 13 off seven balls with one four and a six.
Refatuzzaman and Nizamuddin Ripon claimed two wickets each for 19 and 26 runs respectively.
Sent into bat first at BKSP, Victoria SC were bundled out for 108 runs in 25.4 overs with Abul Bashar making 23, Kamrul Islam 17 and Arman Hossain 15 runs.
Stand-in national captain Shakib Al Hasan bowled most economically to grab four wickets for 11 runs in six overs with two maidens while veteran spinner Mohammad Rafique and Pakistani international Abdul Razzak took two wickets apiece for 14 and 22 runs respectively.
Chasing the poor target, Abahani Limited cantered to victory making 110 in 20.5 overs for the loss of three wickets with opener Imrul Kayes hammering team highest 42 runs off 29 balls that featured five fours and two sixes.
Shakib Al Hasan contributed unbeaten 34 runs off 39 balls with four fours and a six in addition to his four-wicket haul. Later, he was adjudged man of the match.
Opener Rony Talukder scored another useful 21 off 24 balls with three fours.
Abul Bashar took all the three Abahani wickets conceding 26 runs.
In the day's another match, Bangladesh Biman defeated Kalabagan KC by seven wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Winning the toss, Kalabagan KC batted first to score 201 for 8 in curtailed 27 overs with Nazmus Sadat making 56 runs off 49 balls including three fours and two sixes.
Raqibul Hasan scored 41 runs off 35 balls with six fours, Zahid made 37 off 35 balls with four fours and two sixes, and Zubair Ahmed made 32 runs off 19 balls with five fours.
Shafiul Islam captured three wickets for 35 runs, Elias Sunny grabbed two wickets for 39 while Tareq Aziz and Mosharaf Hossain took one wicket apiece for 28 and 41 runs respectively.
In reply, Biman scored the match-winning 202 runs for the loss of three wickets in 25.4 overs with Mushfiqur Rahim contributing unbeaten 84 runs off 63 balls including eight fours and two sixes. Later, Mushfiq was adjudged man of the match
Avishek Mitra scored 42 runs off 31 balls with five fours and two sixes, Zahurul Islam made 28 off 25 balls with three fours and a six and Hasanta Fernando made not out 32 off 25 balls with four fours.
Nazmus Sadat took one wicket for 41 runs while the other two wickets were run out.
