A match that went down the wire and needed a Super Over to determine the winner, Mohammedan Sporting Club held the nerve to win it against Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at BKSP-4 ground on Wednesday, reports BSS.
The match, which was reduced to 10 overs due to rain, was tied after both teams scored 88 runs.
Mohammad Mazid was key for Mohammedan in both phases of the game. Opting to bat first, Mohammedan were restricted to 88-9 with Mazid alone hitting 57 off 30. His innings was studded with five fours and four sixes. Apart from Mazid, no one of Mohammedan could reach the double digit mark.
Khelaghar's Irfan Hossain was the wrecker-in-chief with 4 for 9 runs in just two overs. He was key to Mohammedan's batting line up including taking the wicket of Mazid.
Captain Jahurul Islam Omee and Masum Khan played the vital role as Khelaghar levelled with Mohammedan's score with 88-5 after the stipulated 10 overs. Omee blasted 15-ball-28 while Masum Khan was not out on 33 off 17. Taskin took 2-22.
In the Super Over, being sent to bat first, Khelaghar made 13-1 in one over with Masum Khan alone taking 10 off 4.
But Irfan Shukkur and Mazid helped Mohammedan score 14 runs in one over, losing one wicket. Mazid scored 6 off 3 before being out in the penultimate ball, when the score was level. Parvez Emon took the single in the last ball to confirm the victory in Super Over. Shukkur who hit a six to keep Mohammedan ahead in a one-over eliminator was not out on 7.
Mohammedan collected 13 points from 10 matches after this win, which almost ensured their super league. Khelaghar who have six points from 10 matches were well out of the race.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club recorded a 16-run victory over Old DOHS in a rain-curtailed match of the DPL at BKSP-3 ground on Wednesday.
Opting to bat first, Sheikh Jamal posted 120-8 in a match that was reduced to 13 overs due to a spell of rain. Opener Shykat Ali hammered two fours and as many sixes to score 23 ball-37, which was highest for his side. Mohammad Ashraful added 26 while Zaiur contributed 12.
Ziaur also took 2-28 to contribute in bowling. Alongside him, Ebadot Hossain and Salahuddin Shakil scalped two wickets apiece as Old DOHS was held back to 104-7 to concede the defeat. Rayan Rahman with 36 was their highest scorer while Mahmudul Hasan Joy chipped-in-with 33.
This was Jamal's sixth victory and with 12 points, they are well in race of Super League while DOHS who was already out of the race collected just 5 points.
In another match, despite a superb allround performance of Alauddin Babu, Prime Bank Cricket Club secured a six-wicket victory against Brothers Union by DLS system in their 10th match of the DPL at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city on Wednesday.
In a rain-affected game, which was reduced to 12-over-affair, Babu played a cameo before taking 3-19 with cherry but couldn't resist a Prime Bank win.
Prime Bank are in top position for the time being with 16 points from 10 matches while Brothers Union's Super League spot looked tougher after they collected 10 points from same number of matches.
