Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) Ltd made a good start in the 27th Federation Cup Football Tournament, the season's curtain raiser soccer meet, beating old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj MFS by 2-1 goals in the opening match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Monday, reports UNB.

Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy and Senior Vice-President of Bangladesh Football Federation Abdus Salam Murshedy were present at the inaugural function of the meet in the afternoon.

The winners led the first half 1-0 in the day's opener.

Towhidul Alam Sabuj scored first for Mohammedan SC in the 10th minute by a placing shot when a Habibur Rahman corner kick came his way after deflecting teammate Ismael Bangoura (1-0)

Nurul Absar leveled the margin for Rahmatganj MFS in the 49th minute by a good header, off a Zahid Hasan Dalim corner (1-1).

Guinean forward Ismael Bangoura scored the match-winning goal for the traditional black and white Mohammedans in the 88th minute by his solo effort (2-1).

Twelve teams-all the eleven teams of Premier Division Football League alongside Uttar Baridhara Club of Bangladesh Championship League-split into four groups, are competing in the first phase that began Monday.

Today's matches: Dhaka Abahani Ltd against Farashganj SC (4:00 pm), and Muktijoddha SKC against Uttar Baridhara Club (6:15 pm).
