Mohammedans record 8th successive win, Abahani taste 1st defeat

Mohammedan SC recorded their 8th successive win while Abahani Limited tasted their first defeat in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at separate city venues Sunday, reports UNB.
In the day's matches, Mohammedan SC beat Surjo Tarun Club by 52 runs at the Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah while Biman Cricket team upset Abahahni Limited by 29 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur.
Mohammedans VS Surjo Tarun:
Mohammedan SC batted first after winning the toss to score 234 for 8 in stipulated 50 overs with opener Shamsur Rahman top scoring 83 runs off 116 balls with five fours and three sixes and middle order Mahmudullah making 70 runs off 84 balls with four fours and a six.
Number Seven batsman Farveez Maharoof (33), Delwar Hossain (11) and Marshal Ayub (10) were the other notable scorers for Mohammedan SC.
Tapash Kumar, Sanjamul Islam and Mahbubul Alam scalped two wickets each conceding 43, 45 and 60 runs respectively.
In reply, Surjo Tarun Club were all out for 182 in 45.4 overs with former national skipper Habibul Bashar contributing 52 run off 72 balls with four fours and opener Imtiaz Hossain and two down Hannan Sarkar making 31 runs each.
Another opener Junaid Siddique (19), one down Rajin Saleh (19) and Anisur Rahman (10) were the other notable scorers for the Surjo Tarun Club.
Nabil Samad and Saqlain Sajib claimed three wickets each conceding 30 and 37 runs respectively.
Abahani Limited vs Biman Cricket team:
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Biman Cricket team posted 238 for 7 in quota 50 overs.
One down Zahurul Islam contributed 96 runs off 116 balls featuring nine fours and a six while two down Jihan Mubarak added 77 runs off 95 balls that featured five fours and two sixes.
Openers Elias Sunny (31) and Avishek Mitra (9) were the other notable contributors for Biman Cricket team.
Former national spinner Mohammad Rafique grabbed three wickets for 43 runs while Raqibul Hasan Shiblu bagged two for 37.
Chasing the target, Abahani Limited was restricted to 209 in 50 overs for the loss of nine wickets.
One down Nadif Chowdhury and two down Reshmi Ranjan scored 44 each. Nadif hit five fours and a six facing 57 balls while Reshmi made two fours from 84 balls.
Arafat Sunny (26 not out), Sagir Hossain (18) and Mohammad Rafique (16) were the other notable scorers for the traditional sky blue outfit.
Shafiul Islam claimed three wickets giving away 33 runs while Mosharaf Hossain and Elias Sunny captured two wickets each for 30 and 46 runs respectively.
