ADELAIDE, Oct 29 (AP): Star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan took four wickets for 121 runs to lead Sri Lanka's bowlers in a drawn three-day tour match against the Cricket Australia Chairman's XI which ended Monday.
Muralitharan, on 700 test wickets, will attempt to overtake retired Australian legspinner Shane Warne's record of 708 during Sri Lanka's two-test series against Australia. The first test begins Nov. 8 in Brisbane, the second Nov. 16 in Hobart.
Sri Lanka scored 368-6 declared in its first innings at the Adelaide Oval before the Chairman's XI overtook that total by 41 runs with 409 in its first innings which ended earlier Monday. In its second innings, Sri Lanka finished at 125-3 when play was called off early by mutual agreement.
The visitors lost two wickets to paceman Mick Lewis (2-17) before captain Mahela Jayawardene (52) gained some much needed time at the crease, following his first-innings duck, along with Thilan Samaraweera (41 not out).
The visitors were inconvenienced by the loss of Sanath Jayasuriya for the day with a head cold, following leg injuries to vice captain Kumar Sangakkara and reserve paceman Chanaka Welagedara.
Sri Lanka plays Queensland in a three-day match beginning Friday in Brisbane.
