Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials said on Sunday that experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim is unavailable for the ODI series against West Indies while skipper Najmul Hossain is doubtful as well, reports Cricbuzz.
Both of them missed the Test series against West Indies as they are recovering from their respective injuries that they sustained during the ODIs against Afghanistan.
Towards the end of Afghanistan's innings in the three-match series opener at UAE, Mushfiqur injured the tip of his left Index finger while keeping wickets and the X-ray after the match confirmed a fracture that forced him out of action for four to six weeks.
In the second ODI, Najmul sustained a groin injury while fielding and after the game he underwent scans that revealed a Grade II strain on his left groin. As a result, he could not take part in the Test series against West Indies.
"As far as Mushfiqur is concerned I don't think he will be able to make it to the ODIs against West Indies as he will need more time to recover," a BCB official confirmed the online news portal. "We are not announcing our squad as we are seeing the progress of our regular skipper Najmul and taking time to see whether he can make it or not," he added."We cannot take any risk with him as this is a groin injury and if he damages it further by playing the ODIs against Windies then in that case he might have to remain out of cricket for one to one and a half months and that can be quite devastating as we have Champions Trophy but what I understand is he is progressing well," he said.
The ODI series will begin on December 08, followed by the T20I series starting on December 16.
