Mymensingh beat Gazipur by 79 runs

SHERPUR, May 25 (UNB): Mymensingh District defeated Gazipur District by 79 runs in the opening day's match of the 34th National Cricket Championship at Shaheed Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium here Sunday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Mymensingh scored 141 for all in 42.1 overs in stipulated 50 overs.

Chasing 141 for win, Gazipur were dismissed cheaply for 62 runs in 23.4 overs. In all, four DSA teams-Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Narsingdi and Gazipur -- are taking part in the group-B matches at Sherpur venue. Earlier, Sherpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zakir Hossain inaugurated the meet.

Gazipur Dist: 62/10 in 42.1 overs; Rahman 10, L Chandra 10,  Saikat 4/14, M Hossain 3/8.
