The preliminary round of the 28th National Men's Kabaddi Championship begins tomorrow (Tuesday) at Dhaka Kabaddi Stadium with the Services zone matches, reports UNB.

A total of 24 teams will compete in the prestigious national championship, organised by Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation with the cooperation of Comilla District Sports Association.

Initially, 23 teams -- 18 districts and five Services teams will compete in the preliminary round, split into seven groups, on league basis.

Another Services team and defending champions Bangladesh Rifles will directly play in the final round.

The five-team Services zone matches will be held at the Dhaka Kabaddi Stadium from Aug 12-20, while the other six group matches will be held Aug 25-26 at Comilla, which will also host the final round matches.

General secretary of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation M Nazrul Islam disclosed the details at a press conference at the NSC conference room Sunday.

Tournament committee chairman Amir Hossain Patwary and tournament secretary Abdul Haque also spoke on the occasion.

Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation will provide Tk 100,000 to the hosts of the final round, Comilla DSA, to run the meet.

Participating teams:

Group A - Comilla, Sylhet and Chandpur DSAs

Group B - Dinajpur, Satkhira and Jhenidah DSAs

Group C - Khulna, Meherpur and Kishoreganj DSAs

Group D - Rajshahi, Jamalpur and Patuakhali DSAs

Group E - Tangail, Rangpur and Kushtia DSAs

Group F - Dhaka, Jessore and Kurigram DSAs

Services zone teams: Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Navy and Prisons Directorate.

Six group champions and two top teams from the Services zone along with defending champions Bangladesh Rifles will play in the nine-team final round slated from Aug 27-30 in Comilla.
