Bangladesh Test cricketer Nayeem Hasan has decided to return to the field in a bid to recover more quickly from the physical and mental impact of his alleged assault and harassment by police, reports bdnews24.com.
His elder brother Kamrul Alam Sabbir said Nayeem is resuming cricket on the advice of doctors from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Speaking on Sunday afternoon, Sabbir said, "Nayeem left for Dhaka on a 4:30pm flight. The 'A' team has a match there tomorrow and he will take part in it."
"After that, he will travel to Sylhet, where a Test match is scheduled against Zimbabwe."
Sabbir said Nayeem is now in a "reasonably stable" condition.
Nayeem alleged that he was assaulted by police while travelling home in a CNG-powered autorickshaw after arriving at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport from Dhaka on Friday night.
According to him, police stopped the vehicle at Lalkhan Bazar and assaulted him before taking him to a police station.
The incident drew criticism from current and former national cricketers, many of whom spoke out on Facebook.
After allegations emerged of "unprofessional" conduct towards Nayeem, the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) temporarily suspended two officers on Saturday.
Later that day, CMP Commissioner Hasan Md Shawkat Ali visited Nayeem's home in the city's Bahaddarhat.
On Saturday night, Khulshi Police chief Md Arifur Rahman was withdrawn from his post and attached to the police lines.
Meanwhile, Nayeem Hasan has requested privacy and space as he recovers from the traumatic ordeal, reports Cricbuzz.
Nayeem, who was picked for the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe, appeared visibly shaken while recounting the incident after being released from police custody. He had been taken to the police station following the alleged assault.
Nayeem became the subject of widespread discussion within Bangladesh's cricket fraternity after news of his abduction emerged. Several journalists waited outside his home throughout the day, and when he finally appeared, he requested privacy and asked for some space.
"I need some space," Nayeem told reporters during a press conference at his house in Chattogram on Sunday.
"I am very tired and need some sleep," he said, adding that he had nothing more to disclose about the incident that shook the entire cricket fraternity.
Bangladesh Cricket Board officials said they have sent a member of their medical team to help him recover mentally.
"One of our official of the medical unit went to Chattogram to see him as this kind of thing has a long lasting effect on the mind of the cricketer," a BCB official said without elaborating further.
Mohammad Mithun, Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) president echoed the same sentiment as feels the young off-spinner is a very emotional person.
"He couldn't complete a sentence as he was weeping after saying one or two words when I spoke to him," Mithun told this website.
"We all know he is a very emotional guy and the incident seemed to have shaken him," he added.
"We need to support him mentally because he seems to have broken mentally more than physically," he said adding that BCB president Tamim Iqbal assured CWAB that they will make sure regarding a proper investigation into the matter and ensure justice to Nayeem.
