Ndereba gets career boost

NAIROBI, Sept 18 (AFP): Kenyan prisons department has promoted world marathon title holder Catherine Ndereba owing to her exemplary performance in athletics, reports said Monday.
Kenyan Prisons Commandant Gilbert Omondi promoted Nderebe from officer 2 to officer 1, owing to her excellent performance in world meetings, independent NTV television reported.
The 35-year-old Ndereba won her second world marathon title on September 2 at the Osaka world championships, adding the 2007 marathon gold to her 2003 crown.
It was the first marathon of the year for Ndereba, a four- time Boston marathon winner and a silver medallist at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
