The newly constituted 12-member ad-hoc executive committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) holds its first emergency meeting today (Wednesday) to discuss some important pending issues, reports UNB.
BCB President Sina Ibn Jamali will preside over the meeting that will commence at 4:00 pm at the Board's Navana Tower office in Gulshan.
Through this meeting, the ad-hoc committee of BCB, announced on Sunday by the National Sports Council (NSC), is expected to take charge officially.
Of the pending issues, the new committee will have to take urgent steps to announce the squad for the ensuing twenty20 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa in September.
The BCB will have to send the name of final squad to the twenty20 organising committee by August 11. To cope with the matter, the BCB president has already extended the tenure of chief selector Faruque Ahmed and selector Athar Ali Khan.
The Board will also have to face the task of appointing two new selectors in place of Faruque Ahmed and Athar Ali Khan, whose extended term will expire on August 31.
Former national skipper Akram Khan is the other member of the three-member selection committee, who took his charge on June 1 for a two-year term replacing Golam Nowsher Prince.
But, before sending the name of the Bangladesh squad for twenty20 World Cup, the BCB will have to decide on a new national coach as well as on team physio Paul Close, whose tenure expires on August 8.
The coach selection process was in an advanced stage as the previous Board was set to take interviews of the three short-listed candidates -- Australian John Harmer and Jamie Siddons, and Zimbabwean Dave Houghton -- in the last week of July.
But the process came to a halt following the dissolution of the previous Board. The position of the national coach has remained vacant following the departure of former Australian coach Dav Whatmore after the home series against India.
During the just concluded Sri Lanka tour, another Australian Shaun Williams acted as the interim coach of the national team, which was whitewashed both in the ODI and Test series.
Today's inaugural meeting of the new BCB Board is also expected to discuss the appointment of team operations manager and the twenty20 World Cup camp for national squad, which is likely to start on August 16.
According to a BCB source, the meeting is also likely to discuss the appointment of chairmen for the standing committees, selection of the national team sponsor and announcing the Academy squad for the upcoming Australia tour.
