Olympic torch arrives in city on Jan 24

The Olympic torch, to be lighted in Sri Lanka on January 22 marking the ensuing SA Games, will arrive here on January 24, reports UNB.
The eight-nation SA Games, the biggest sporting extravaganza of the region, will be in Dhaka from January 29-February 9.
On arrival from Sri Lanka, the torch will be formally handed over to Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on January 25.
Another torch, to be lighted with the torch of Sri Lanka at Meghna Ghat in Dhaka on January 28, will be carried through different streets of the capital.
Convener of Ceremonies Committee of SA Games Maj Gen (retd) Amin Ahmed Chowdhury disclosed the details at a press briefing at the conference room of Banani Army Stadium here Tuesday.
Nearly 8,500 students of different schools and colleges of the country, 600 members of tribal community, 1,300 members of Ansar & VDP and a significant number from the armed forces will participate in the inaugural ceremony of the SA Games on January 29 and closing function on February 9.
