Overnight rain delays start

June 25, 2007 00:00:00

Heavy overnight rain has delayed the start of the one-off one-day international (ODI) between hosts Ireland and South Africa at the Civil Service Club in Stormont.
The outfield was fairly wet, and the umpires and match officials have decided to conduct an inspection at 10.30 am local time with a view to starting at 11.00 am.
The weather at the moment is dry and a little warmer than Saturday, but heavy showers are forecast for the afternoon.

They recovered to win that match, but Jacques Kallis and Company would know that in overcast, unfamiliar conditions, Ireland must not be taken lightly.
That said, Ireland have had a poor run since the World Cup, failing to win a single match against English counties in the Friends Provident Trophy.
