PCLT20 begins in Sharjah todaty

CHITTAGONG, Mar 25 (UNB): The 2nd version of the Port City League (PCL) T20 Bashundhara Cup begins today (Friday) in the popular desert cricket venue of Sharjah Stadium.
Chittagong Mohammedan SC will take on Top Sports Noakhali at 5:00 pm while Dhaka Sports Club meets Bangladesh Biman at 8: 40 pm, both Sharjah time, in two opening day's matches.
Officials of ICC, Bangladesh Cricket Board and some parliament members will be present in the opening ceremony. Country's famed singer Mamtaz will render song to enhance the attraction of the opening ceremony in presence of thousands of Bangladeshis there.
The opening programme will also feature massive fireworks and hoisting of national flag at the ground to mark the Independence Day of Bangladesh.
A total of eight teams, including Bangla Tigers of India, split into two groups, will take part in the week- long tournament.
Participating teams:
Group A - Chittagong Mohammedan SC, Chittagong Brothers Union Club,
Chittagong Tigers and Top Sports Noakhali
Group B - Dhaka Sports Club, Pirates of Chittagong, Bangla Tigers of India and Bangladesh Biman.
The two semifinal matches will be held on April 1 while the final match will be held on April 2.
The champion team will receive US$ 100,000 while the runners-up team will get US$ 30,000. Besides, man of the match and man of the series will also be awarded.
Satellite TV channel ATN Bangla will telecast all the matches live.
Renowned politician and sports organizer AZM Nasiruddin, under the banner of Chittagong Divisional Sports Association, introduced the first PCL T20 Cricket in the port city of Chittagong last year similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) format.
