Pepsi-DRU cricket tournament begins today

The Pepsi-DRU six-a-side Cricket tournament begins today (Sunday) at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium with eight matches on the cards, reports UNB.
Former secretary general of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) Mahbubur Rahman is expected to open the meet as chief guest.
A record 26 teams -- 18 from print media, five electronics media and three news-agencies splitting into eight groups -- will take part in the robin league basis tournament, sponsored by Transcom Beverage Ltd.
Eight champion teams from the groups will qualify for the knockout basis quarterfinals.
Of the estimated Tk 300,000 budget for the tournament, sponsors Transcom Beverage will provide Tk 200,000.
Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) sports secretary Morsalin Ahmed disclosed the details at a press conference at the DRU conference room Saturday.
Transcom Beverage Ltd executive director Golam Quddus Chowdhury, DRU general secretary Sahed Chowdhury and Bangladesh Handball Federation general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor also spoke on the occasion.
Opening day's matches: Janakantha vs Desh Bangla, BD News vs Abas-Karotoa (9:30 am), Channel i vs BBC, Samakal vs Bhorer Dak (10:30 am), Naya Diganta vs Independent, BanglaVision vs Manabjamin (11:30 am), Amader Samay vs Khabarpatra and Jai Jai Din vs New Nation (12:30 pm).
