LIMA, July 26 (AFP) : Peruvian footballers quit their national team Saturday, bringing further misery for fans who have already seen their side slump in World Cup qualifying.
"We have presented the Peru Football Federation (FPF) a document announcing the players' resignations because none of the reforms demanded have been carried out," said players' union president Fernando Revilla.
The petition was signed by more than 600 footballers based both in Peru and abroad.
Manuel Burga, the president of the FPF, said that in the long-term, "the biggest losers will be the players".
