\\\'Popularise traditional rural sports to keep them alive

RANGPUR, Mar 21 (BSS): Speakers at the concluding ceremony of daylong union level sports competitions on Thursday afternoon stressed the need for popularising traditional rural sports among young generations to keep them alive.
Terming rural sports as the important means of healthy entertainment, they put special emphasis on arranging frequent competitions of these traditional sports in the educational institutions to entertain the people and save those from complete disappearance.
Shalbahan Union Parishad under the management of Tentulia upazila administration and with the assistances of the National Sports Council organised the competitions at Majhipara Bilateral High School ground in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh.
Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Mohammad Salahuddin formally launched the traditional rural sports competitions as the chief guest with UNO of Tentulia upazila Mohammad Moniruzzman in the chair.
Newly elected Tentulia upazila Chairman Rezaul Karim Shaheen, upazila female Vice-chairman Sultana Razia, Shalbahan union Chairman Motiar Rahman and Headmaster of the school Solaiman Kabir, addressed the function.
Chairman of the school governing committee Nekbar Ali, President of Tentulia upazila unit of Awami League Yasin Ali Mandal and its General Secretary Kazi Mahmudur Rahman Dablu were present.
Students of different educational institutions and common people participated in different events like 'Ha-Du-Du', 'Kanamchhi Bhon Bhon', 'Biscuit Race', 'Climbing up to Oily Banana Tree', 'Cock Fight', 'Bau-Chee', 'Danriabandha', and 'Gollachhut' in the sports competitions.
Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of different sports events.
