Rain washes out second day\\\'s play

FATULLAH, June 11 (UNB): The second day's play of the lone Test match between Bangladesh and India was called off due to wet outfield following heavy downpour here Thursday.

Umpires and match officials cancelled the day's play at 1:40 pm after the final inspection of the playground.

The play was scheduled to resume at 9:30 am Thursday as the rain ate away overs on the first day of the Test Wednesday.

If the monsoon rain does not interrupt, the third day's play will resume at 9:30 am (Bangladesh time) with India batting on 239 for no loss in 56 overs.

The first day (Wednesday) of the solitary Test match of the Za'n Zee Ice Cream Cricket Series was also interrupted for around four hours and the visiting India faced just 56 overs of the stipulated 90 overs against the Tigers, after deciding to bat first winning the toss.

India piled up a quick score on day one spurred by their unbeaten opening stand between centurion Shikhar Dhawan (150 runs off 158 balls) and Murali Vijay (89 runs off 178 balls).

Bangladesh has less risk to lose from this Test than India. A defeat against Bangladesh will cause a slip for India's position to seventh from third in the ICC Test rankings with 95 points.

A draw will drop India to 97 rating points from 99, it will stay above England (5th) and Pakistan (6th) while a draw will give Bangladesh to take 41.21 rating points from 39, and it won't bring about a change in their ninth rank, ahead of only Zimbabwe. Only a victory can help them earn one point and to retain their third place.

Bangladesh never tasted victory in the longer format of cricket but managed a draw in their seven Test meetings against India.

Meanwhile, the Mashrafee Bin Mortaza-led Bangladesh will face the visitors' ODI force, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, in three one-day matches on June 18, 21 and 24 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
