Opener Anamul Haque Bijoy became the first Bangladeshi batter to score 1000 runs in a single season of Dhaka Premier League (DPL) since it got the List A status in 2013, reports BSS.
He reached the milestone in the 14th match and to make the matter more memorable, he hit a century in his side Prime Bank Cricket Club's comfortable 10-wicket victory over Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club.
Before the league got the List A status, it is believed only two batters could reach the 1000-run landmark in a single season. Abahani captain Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu was believed to hit the milestone as the first batter in 1984-85 season and then Mohammedan Sporting Club's foreign recruit Steve Tikolo scored 1227 runs in 2001 season. But no official data was found about their record as the league was not considered as List A tournament during that time.
Bijoy's current ran tally stood at 1042 runs with three centuries and eight half-centuries after his 84 ball-112 against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club at BKSP-4 ground on Tuesday.
Earlier, he rewrote the record by becoming the highest run-getter in DPL since in got the List A status. He overcame Saif Hasan's 814-run tally in his just 12th match of the DPL.
Bijoy, however, started this match with 930 runs which meant he needed 70 runs to reach the magical figure. He, however, got there with a single off pacer Nahidul Islam and then as expectedly broke out in wild celebration.
In another record, opener Tamim Iqbal became the first Bangladeshi batter to score 10000 runs in List A cricket after his impeccable century in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) on Tuesday.
He blasted an unbeaten 109 off 81 as his side Prime Bank Cricket Club crushed Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club by 10 wickets.
However, Tamim's century was his 20th in List A cricket. Tamim who scored 90 runs in the side's previous game, came to the match with 9903 runs. He played in aggressive fashion right from the start in a bid to keep the side going in the chase of a moderate total.
His fifty came off 57 balls but after completing the half-century he went berserk on the Rupganj bowlers and brought up his second fifty off just 20 balls. Having done so, he also reached the 10000 runs milestone.
His current run tally in List A cricket is now 10012. Among those runs, 7826 runs came from ODI cricket and the rest of the runs came from the DPL and other competitive one-day format cricket. Among his 20 centuries, his 14 centuries came through ODI cricket.
Meanwhile, Shakib's half-century came off just 21 balls. Only two other Bangladeshi batters reached fifty with fewer deliveries than Shakib in List A cricket.
Farhad Reza held the record of fastest DPL half-century off 18 balls. He hit 20 ball-56 against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in 2019 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, playing for Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club.
Najmul Hossain Milon, who was known as 'Chokka Milon' for his ability to hit sixes at will, was the second fastest to half-century, bringing up the feat off 19 balls. He also finally hit 20 ball-56 against Khulna Division in Dhanmondi Ground in 2007 in National Cricket League (NCL) one-day game.
