SHANGHAI, Nov 13 (AFP): Switzerland's Roger Federer was crowned the year's top player for the fourth consecutive time at a glittering ceremony Tuesday.
The 26-year-old star, dressed in a pale grey jacket and navy shirt, received the ATP Race award in front of thousands of fans at Shanghai's Qi Zhong Stadium, venue of the ongoing Masters Cup showpiece.
"This is already the fourth consecutive year I've received this trophy," Federer told the crowd.
Federer has added another three Grand Slams, taking his total to 12, among seven titles this year.
However Federer slumped to a shock defeat against Fernando Gonzalez in his opening match here and will probably need round-robin wins against Nikolay Davydenko and Andy Roddick to reach the semi-finals.
