India's stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma has broken quite a few records with his match-winning knock against Bangladesh on Thursday in the second T20 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, report agencies.
Most number of 75+ scores in T20s
The Mumbai lad also achieved a unique feat of scoring the most number of 75-plus knocks in the format as he has managed to cross the 75-run mark 10 times in his T20I career.
2,500 runs in T20s
Sharma became the first batsman to reach the 2,500-run mark in the shortest format. Virat Kohli (2450 runs) and New Zealand opener Martin Guptill (2359 runs) follow the India opener in the top run-getters list in T20I cricket.
Most number of sixes as Indian captain in T20s
The 32-year-old bagged the record of hitting the most number of sixes (35) in T20Is as captain. His knock consisted of 6 maximums, making him overtake former captain MS Dhoni's tally of 34 sixes as Indian skipper.
Equalling Kohli's record of most 50+ scores
India's regular captain Kohli has registered 22 fifty-plus scores in T20Is. Sharma scored his 18th half-century in Rajkot and he also has four hundreds to his name. Thus, he equalled Kohli's record of most 50 plus scores in T20Is.
2nd man in history to play 100 T20s
Rohit Sharma on Thursday became the 2nd Indian cricketer to reach the milestone of featuring in 100 T20Is for the country. India women's captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the 1st Indian player to the landmark. Among men, Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik is the only other cricketer to have played 100 matches in the shortest format (111). On the other hand, 10 women cricketers (including Kaur) have now featured in 100 or more T20I matches, with New Zealander Suzie Bates and Australia's Ellyse Perry (both 111) leading the pack.
When he took the field against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20 in Rajkot, Rohit also crossed Shahid Afridi (99) to become the 2nd-most capped male cricketer in the world.
