Rajshahi University (RU), Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Mymensingh, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) reached semifinals of the Walton Refrigerator 2nd University Challenge Cup from their respective groups at three different BKSP venues Tuesday, reports UNB.
In the semifinal matches today (Wednesday), Group-A champion ULAB will play against Group-D champion BAU while Group-B Champion RU will take on Group-C champion AIUB.
RU vs CU
Rajshahi University (RU) confirmed their semifinal berth as Group-B champion after beating Chittagong University (CU) by 11 runs at BKSP ground-4.
Sent to bat first, RU were dismissed for 144 runs in stipulated 20 overs.
Himel(38), Khalid(16), Ovi (not out 15), Mahfuz (15), Sabbir (15) and Hasnat (10) were the double digit scorers for RU.
Jewel took three wickets without conceding any run while Afnan also took 3 wickets for 1 run only.
Chasing 145 runs to win, CU was dismissed for 133 in 19.3 overs. Jewel scored 51 runs while Rabbi scored 41.
Jewel of CU was adjudged man-of-the-match.
BAU vs KU
Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Mymensingh reached the semifinal as Group-D champion after beating Khulna University (KU) by 7 runs at BKSP ground-2.
Batting first after winning the toss, BAU scored 113 runs for 9 in 20 overs.
Turag scored unbeaten 34 runs to be adjudged man-of-the-match while Ratul (19), Utsho (11), Rana (10) and Shubrato (10) were the other notable scorers for BAU.
Ali Hasan and Monjurul Alam took two wickets each for 16 and 28 runs respectively. Chasing 114 runs to win, KU scored 106 for 8 in 20 overs.
Riadush Salahin, Farhan Sadik and Rubel Mahamud scored 33, 25 and 10 runs respectively. Tanzib and Khalid took two wickets each for 14 and 18 runs respectively.
ULAB vs JU
ULAB advanced to the semifinal from Group-A as an unbeaten champion after defeating Jagannath University (JU) by 11 runs at BKSP ground-4 in Savar Tuesday.
Sent to bat first, ULAB scored 153 for 7 in stipulated 20 overs with skipper Hasanuzzaman scoring 42 runs off 27 balls featuring four fours and two sixes.
Anjam Ahmed (31), Izal Ahmed (30), Morsalin Bin Mortaja (not out 12) and Altaf Kamal(12) were the other notable scorers for ULAB.
Rasidun Nabi, Avijit Saha Sohidul Islam, Azharul Islam, Mostafizur Rahman, and Redwan Ullah took one wicket each for 13, 13, 15, 17, 30, and 31 runs respectively.
Chasing 154 runs, JU scored 142 for 6 in 20 overs.
Rana scored 45 runs off 42 balls with four fours and two sixes; Sohidul Islam added unbeaten 30 runs while Mostafizur Rahman (26), Azharul Islam (14) and Bashu Deb (13) were the other notable scorers for JU.
AIUB VS NUST
American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) confirmed their semifinal berth as Group-C champion beating Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NUST) by 10 wickets at BKSP ground-3 in Savar.
Batting first after winning the toss NUST dismissed cheaply for 29 runs in 13.1 overs with opener Sharif Ahmed, the only double digit scorer, scoring 15 runs. Tanvir Haider claimed 6 wickets for 5 runs in 3.1 overs and was adjudged man-of-the-match.
In reply, chasing 30 runs, AIUB easily reached the target making 33 runs for no loss in 2.1 overs.
Earlier, in the day's two other group matches, Jhahangirnagar University (JU) beat Noakhali University of Science & Technology (NUST) by 3 wickets in a Group-C match at BKSP Ground-2, while Khulna University (KU) beat Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) by 44 runs in a Group-D match of the meet at BKSP Ground-3.
