South Africa A team clinched the ATN Records Tri-Nation One-Day Cricket crown upsetting favourite West Indies A team by five runs in a nail-biting final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur Friday, reports UNB.
With the day's well-merited victory, the 2nd string Proteas side not only completed a successful tour in Bangladesh, but also took sweet revenge of their two successive defeats against the Caribbean team in the league matches.
The Caribbean team smartly reached the final of the three-nation meet, which also involved Bangladesh, winning all the four matches while South Africa managed the final berth with two wins and two losses.
Earlier, South Africa A Team won the two-match four-day series against Bangladesh after beating the home side by an innings and four runs in the first match and by 185 runs in the 2nd match.
Sent in to bat first in the day's final match, the Proteas A team amassed 328 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs with Rilee Roussouw contributing 80 runs and opener Stiaan Van Zyl making 62.
Shane Shillingford and Nelon Pascal took two wickets each for 50 and 83 runs respectively.
In reply, the Caribbean team battled hard but forced to fold their innings at 323 for 6 in 50 overs with opener Devon Smith scoring 115 runs off 120 balls that featured 11 fours while Darren Bravo made not out 69.
Lonward Tsotsobe grabbed three wickets for 76 runs while Quinton Friend took two for 73 runs.
