Saif return to winning streak

Saif Sporting Club returned to winning streak as they registered an overwhelming 4-2 goals victory over Abahani Limited, Dhaka in the TVS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Sunday, reports BSS.

In the day's match, Nigerian forward Mfon Sunday Udoh, midfielder Rahim Uddin and Rwandan defender Emery Bayisenge scored one goal each for Saif who led the first half by 2-1 goals.

Brazilian forward Dorielton and Costa Rican Daniel Colindres netted one goal apiece for Dhaka Abahani Limited. Saif began to dominate the pay and got reap early when Mfon Sunday scored the first goal in the 14th minute. Dorielton restored the parity for Abahani Limited in the 35th minute of the match.

Saif SC again took the lead from suicidal goal as Abahani's defender Monir Hossain netted an own goal in the 40th minute of the match.

After the breather, Rahim Uddin further widened the margin scoring the third goal for Saif in the 65th minute.

Saif SC continued their onslaught and this time Bayisenge scored the fourth goal converting a spot kick in the 73rd minute while Daniel reduced the margin scoring the second goal for Abahani Limited in the 90+6th minute from a penalty.

The day's win saw Saif SC, who stand third position in the league table, secured 33 points from 18 matches while despite the defeat, the sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited remained at their previous place of second position with 38 points playing the same number of matches.

In another match, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra beat Uttar Baridhara Club by exciting 5-3 goals at Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city on Sunday.

In the day's match, Nigerian striker Ismahil Akinade scored a brace while forward Mohammad Jewel, defender Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and forward Mannaf Rabby supported him with a lone goal each for Sheikh Russel who led the first half by 2-1 goals.

Forward Samin Yasir Juel, midfielder Maruf Ahmed and Asadul Islam Sakib netted the lone goal apiece for Uttar Baridhara Club.

Jewel opened an account scoring the first goal for Sheikh Russel in the 11th minute while Nasir doubled the lead scoring the second goal in the 38th minute from a spot kick.

Samim reduced the margin scoring the first goal for Baridhara in the 39th minute while Ismahil further widened the margin scoring the third goal for Sheikh Russel in the 45+5th minute of the match.

After resumption, Ismahil scored his second and fourth goal for Sheikh Russel in the 48th minute while Maruf pulled one back scoring the second goal for Baridhara in the 63rd minute. Rabbi scored the fifth goal for Sheikh Russel in the 52nd minute while Sakib reduced the margin scoring the third goal for Baridhara in the 81st minute of the match.

With the day's win, Sheikh Russel raised their tally to 21 points from 18 matches while Uttar Baridhara Club remained at their previous credit of 13 points playing the same number of matches.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan forward Otabek Valijonov scored a brace as Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club beat Chattogram Abahani Limited by 2-0 goals at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Sunday.

In the day's match, Otabek scored the first goal for Sheikh Jamal in the 29th minute and after resumption he sealed the victory scoring the second goal in the 78th minute of the match.

Chattogram Abahani Limited, however, tried heart and soul to stage a fight back in the match, but they failed to convert any in the remaining proceeding.

The day's win saw Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club improved their tally with 33 points from 18 matches while the port city team Chattogram Abahani Limited remained at their previous credit of 26 points playing the same number of outings.
