After a six-month-long break, Shakib Al Hasan returned to play for MI New York for the first time this season at the seventh match of Major League Cricket (MLC), but was unable to make any significant contributions, report agencies.

He left the crease adding only a run to the board in three balls. San Francisco Unicorns cruised to the meagre target of 105 with ease, as Shakib remained wicketless in his four overs that saw 25 runs coming.

New York opted to bat after losing the toss at the Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Pomona, California on Monday (BST). Quinton de Kock left the crease in the first over. Monank Patel and Tajinder Singh followed during the power play. Shakib went to the crease in the fifth over and was caught at slip by Finn Allen in a delivery from Australian pacer Brody Couch that bounced a bit too much.

New York struggled to score 104 runs in 20 overs after losing 6 wickets for 46 runs. Corbin scored 21 while Nicholas Pooran managed 20.

San Francisco's Matthew Short took four wickets and Couch got three. Despite losing openers Finn and Lhuan-dre Pretorius quickly in the chase, the Unicorns did not have a hard time to have the momentum to win. Sanjay Krishnamurthi remained unbeaten on 48, while Short got 21.

This is Shakib's second season in MLC. Last season, he played four matches for Los Angeles Knight Riders. After this tournament, he will play in the Sri Lanka Premier League. In January, the allrounder helped his team to reach UAE's International League T20.
