Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan may face disciplinary action for threatening to quit Test and ODI cricket for Bangladesh and leaving to play in the CPL without permission, reports UNB.
Former national skipper Shakib Al Hasan reportedly made the threat recently after Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha of Sri Lanka asked him to return to Bangladesh's training camp on the mid-way of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on August 1. But, Shakib wanted to return home after completion of the CPL on August 16.
Shakib Al Hasan is the first Bangladeshi cricketer to speak openly about leaving international cricket.
Shakib went to London on his way to Barbados to participate in the Caribbean Premier League. However, he did not receive any no-objection certificate from the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Two days before, the BCB had asked Shakib to return to the country immediately from London.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan, MP, admitted that he received a message from Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha that Shakib Al Hasan threatened to quit playing Tests and ODIs for Bangladesh.
Talking to local media, the BCB boss said, "I've received a letter in this regard…. I don't understand how he (Shakib) can say such a thing. I want to speak to them in person. If this is indeed true, nobody will be spared. There will be no compromise on discipline… we're very strict in this regard."
There is very little possibility to give the no-objection certificate (NOC) as he breached discipline, Nazmul said, adding that the all-rounder may not be allowed to play in the CPL.
However, the BCB will take a decision on Shakib in its July 7 board meeting.
Talking to UNB, BCB media manager Rabeed Imam said they came to know that Shakib is likely to join the training camp on Sunday (July 6) that began on July 1.
Apart from earlier disciplinary breaches during his international career, Shakib has had several run-ins with the authorities this year too. His infamous gesture towards the camera during the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka ODI series earned him a three-match ban, and at the moment, a BCB disciplinary committee is investigating his alleged brawl with a spectator during a Bangladesh-India game last month.
