Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan's brilliant six-wicket haul helped dismiss Zimbabwe for 240 in the first innings of the first Bashundhara Cement Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
Earlier, Zimbabwe decided to bat first after winning the toss, but Bangladesh soon jolted the visitors taking two wickets-opener Vusi Sibanda (6) and one down batsman Hamilton Masakadza (13) -- for 31 runs in the first hour.
Opening batsman Sikandar Raza tried to repair the damage, eventually scoring the highest 51 runs off 122 balls with six fours, before being caught by Mahmudullah off Jubair Hossain, who was also impressive.
On his way to a 12th career 5-wicket haul - although his first since 2010 -Shakib Al Hasan grabbed Hamilton Masakadza (13), Elton Chigumbura (29), Regis Chakabva (25), John Curtis Nyumbu (14) Tinashe Panyangara (8) and Tafadzwa Kamungozi (5), to end with figures of 6/59 off 24.5 overs.
It was the Bangladeshi talisman's first match back from a 3-month suspension, reduced from 6.
Jubair Hossain ended with 2/58 off 15 overs.
Shahadat Hossain had set the tone for the day in the very first over, drawing the edge of Vusi Sibanda's bat through to Mushfiqur Rahim off the fifth ball.
Taijul Islam (1/42) was the other man to get among the wickets, getting rid of the dangerous middle-order batsman Craig Ervine for 34.
In reply, Bangladesh reached 27/1 at stumps off 12 overs.
The man out was opener Tamim Iqbal (5), who fell to Tinashe Panyangara.
Mominul Haque and Shamsur Rahman remained unbeaten on 14 and 8 respectively.
