As expected Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Wednesday appointed Shane Jurgensen as the interim coach of the national cricket team for the upcoming home series against West Indies, reports BSS.
The decision was taken in an executive committee meeting presided over by new president Nazmul Hasan Papon.
New BCB boss Nazmul disclosed the decision in a post-meeting press briefing at the BCB office. He said, "Richard Pybus has informed us that he would no longer continue as the head coach of Bangladesh national cricket team. His agent has confirmed it to the BCB. We have decided to appoint Shane Jurgensen, the bowling coach of the Tigers as the interim coach of the national team for the series against West Indies".
Pybus took the job of Bangladesh head coach last July but was yet to sign the contract officially. The situation got worst when Pybus straight went to his home in South Africa from Sri Lanka after the completion of the T20 World Cup and did not return to Bangladesh.
BCB asked him to join his job before the West Indies series but he remained non-responsive. It was learnt that his family is not willing to come Bangladesh with him and that was the major cause of Pybus's U-turn.
In an interview Pybus earlier said the BCB wanted him to spend 320 days a year with the Bangladesh team, a commitment he was not ready to make because of family reasons.
The meeting also decided to appoint Ranadeb Bose of India as the development coach and Stuart James Karppinen as the physical performance coach of the BCB Cricket Academy. Karppinen, an Australian, played for Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory between 1997 and 2003.
He was also the strength and conditioning coach of the Australian national team.
BCB also decided to put stern disciplinary measures against defaulting franchises of the first edition of the BPL T20. The issues will be further discussed in the next Board meeting on 1st November.
