Sheikh Jamal beat Brothers Union 2-0 to reach semis

Star-studded Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club advanced to the semifinal of the Independence Cup Football Tournament as the first team beating Brothers Union Club by 2-0 goals in the 1st quarterfinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Monday, reports UNB. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will play the 1st semifinal against the winners of 2nd quarterfinal between Abahani Limited and Farashganj SC Thursday (April 21) at the same venue at 4:45 pm. In the day's match, Cameroon recruit Stephan Loga Bouga and Shakil Ahmed scored one goal each for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. Bouga broke the deadlock for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the 45th minute, scoring with a header off a left wing corner by Shakil (1-0). After the lemon break, Shakil doubled the winners' margin in the 75th minute as he scored with a placing shot from inside the danger zone after taking a right wing cross from Nigerian recruit Femi Orunnimi (2-0). Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club dominated the match and notched their deserving victory while Brothers Union Club was totally off color on the day and failed to produce any real move.
