The six-nation Sheikh Russell 2nd South Asian Roll Ball Championship was inaugurated Thursday at the Dhanmondi Abahani ground, reports UNB.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and hosts Bangladesh are competing in the 2nd version of the meet, organised jointly by Bangladesh Roller Skating Federation and Bangladesh Roll Ball Association.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the three-day meet Thursday at a simple ceremony.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder, MP, and Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, MP, were present as special guests. General Secretary of Bangladesh Roller Skating Federation and President of Bangladesh Roll Ball Association Ahmed Asiful Hasan were also present.
Although the tournament was formally inaugurated Thursday, the competition will begin today (Friday).
Six teams, split into two groups, are taking part in the men's competition. The groups are: Group A - Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka; and Group B - India, Pakistan and Nepal.
Three teams-Bangladesh, India and Nepal-are competing in the women's group of the competition.
The matches will be held in two venues-Dhanmondi Abahani ground and Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
