Bangladeshi shooter Ummey Zakia Sultana finished 4th in the women's 10-metre air rifles of the 21st Commonwealth Games Shooting at Belmont Shooting Centre at Gold Coast in Brisbane on Monday, reports UNB.
A 24-year old shooter from Lalmonirhat, Zakia, the gold medalist of the event in the national shooting championship in 2017, scored 202.00 in the final shoot-off and missed the bronze despite an improved show in the finals.
After the final shoot-off, both Martina Lindsey Veloso of Singapore and Mehuli Ghosh of India finished top jointly scoring 247.2 each, but in the title deciding shoot-off Martina scored 10.3 to clinch the gold while Mehuli fired 9.9 to settle for the silver. Earlier in the qualification round, Zakia Sultana finished 6th among the eight finalists scoring 410.5 while Apurvi Chandela of India qualified for the final round with top position scoring 423.2. Another Bangladeshi shooter Syeda Atkiar Hasan finished 10th among the 18 competitors in the qualification round of the event. In the men's 10-metre air pistol, Shakil Ahmed managed a final round berth as the 8th and last man scoring 563-14x and in the final shoot-off and was placed 6th scoring 150.1 in the final shoot-off at the same venue on the day.
