Left-arm Bangladesh pace bowler Shoriful Islam has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka due to a hand injury, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed, report agencies.
The second Test begins in Dhaka on May 23.
Shoriful had been struck on his right hand while batting on the fourth day of the Chattogram Test. An X-ray has confirmed a fracture which could keep him out of action for around four to five weeks.
An X-ray confirmed a fracture, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement.
"Shoriful had a contusion of the right hand while batting. After the fourth day's play an X-ray was carried out, which has revealed a fracture on the base of the 5th metacarpal bone," National team physio Bayjedul Islam said.
"Such injuries tend to take around three weeks to heal, followed by a couple of week's rehab. He will not be available to play for four to five weeks," he added.
The selectors didn't name a replacement for Shoriful while announcing an unchanged squad for the second Test in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh's injury woes continue. Shoriful is the latest addition to the hosts' injury list as they earlier lost Taskin Ahmed (shoulder) and Mehedy Hasan (finger).
Shoriful has been ruled out for four to five weeks, which is likely to make him unavailable for the first West Indies Test as well, set to start on June 16.
He also said that Shoriful would miss the Test series in West Indies but has the chance to play the limited over series.
"Shoriful is unlikely to be fit ahead of the West Indies Test series but he has the chance to play the limited over series."
Bangladesh are likely to head for the tour on June 5 to play two Tests, three T20Is and three ODIs till mid-July.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh announced a 16-member squad for the second and final Test against Sri Lanka, starting May 23 in Dhaka without bringing up any significant changes.
Earlier, Mehidy Hasan Miraz who was included in the first Test squad was ruled out after he injured the small finger on his right hand during a Dhaka Premier League game (DPL).
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said Miraz though couldn't make his way to the second Test, he is highly likely to be fit ahead of Bangladesh's tour in West Indies in the next month.
"He is recovering fast and hopefully he will be available for selection ahead of West Indies series," Abdein said on Thursday.
The Bangladesh team management however will discuss the Test future of pacer Mustafizur Rahman once they get back to Dhaka, Abdein added.
