Shoriful, Tanzid script consolatory win for the Tigers

Bangladesh claimed a consolatory yet comprehensive win over Zimbabwe in the third ODI at Harare on Saturday. Led by a 94 from Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Bangladesh cruised to a seven-wicket win. A four-wicket haul from Shoriful Islam earlier in the day helped them restrict the hosts to just 199, reports Cricbuzz.
After opting to bowl first, Bangladesh exploited the new ball on a surface with variable bounce to tie Zimbabwe down. The hosts had only crawled to 12 in the sixth over when Shoriful struck to dismiss Ben Curran. Taskin Ahmed then removed Brian Bennett in the very next over, and by the 13th over Zimbabwe had only reached 27 when Shoriful returned to dismiss Craig Ervine.
Progress remained slow but Wessly Madhevere and Innocent Kaia were able to arrest the slide with a 51-run stand. While the partnership ended with Kaia falling in the 27th over, Madhevere remained resolute and held the innings together with 75 off 74. Brad Evans then played an important hand down the order and struck his second consecutive fifty to push Zimbabwe towards 200. They were eventually bowled out for 199 in the 49th over.
While the total seemed modest, Zimbabwe would've remained confident having defended just 141 at the same venue earlier in the week. However, any hopes of replicating such an effort were quashed early with Bangladesh getting off to a rollicking start. Tanzid set the tone early by hitting Ernest Masuku for a six and a four in the second over. He continued to attack as Bangladesh raced to 59 for no loss by the end of the Powerplay.
The openers went on to share a 151-run stand to effectively seal the contest. Zimbabwe squandered three opportunities to dismiss Tanzid before he eventually fell six runs short of a century in the 35th over. Largely playing second fiddle, Soumya Sarkar too played an important hand with 69 with Bangladesh reaching their target with 14 overs to spare.
Brief Scores: Zimbabwe 199 all out (Wessly Madhevere 75, Brad Evans 50; Shoriful Islam 4-44) lost to Bangladesh 200/3 in 35.4 overs (Tanzid Hasan 94, Soumya Sarkar 69; Ernest Masuku 2-33) by 7 wickets.
