Despite an ordinary performance on his Pakistan Super League (PSL) debut, Shoriful Islam got a taste of victory when his side, Peshawar Zalmi, beat Rawalpindi Pindiz by five wickets in a high-scoring game at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium in Pakistan on Saturday, reports BSS.
Shoriful conceded 31 runs in four overs and went wicketless as Rawalpindi compiled a hefty 214-4 after opting to bat first, with opener Yasir Khan striking the highest 83 off 46 balls.
Peshawar, however, chased down the total with five balls to spare, reaching 218-5 for a victory in their PSL opening game.
Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, who was part of the Rawalpindi side, took 1-35 in his four overs but could not prevent the team's defeat.
Rishad was economical in his first three overs, conceding just 17 runs and helping his side apply pressure on Peshawar in the middle overs. However, his last over yielded 18 runs, which eventually gave Peshawar the edge in the game. Peshawar remarkably won despite no batter scoring a half-century. Opener Mohammad Haris was the top-scorer for the side with 47, while captain Babar Azam made 39. Michael Bracewell remained not out on 35 off 17 balls, playing a vital role in the chase alongside Abdul Samad, who blasted 33 off 11 balls with one four and four sixes.
