SK Jamal DC emerge group champions

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club emerged Group C champions in the Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup Football Tournament beating Muktijoddha Sangsad KC by 3-1 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city on Thursday, reports UNB.
After the match, Sheikh Jamal DC clinched the top slot in the group securing six points while Mukijoddha SKC finished group runners-up bagging three points. Both the teams have qualified for the quarterfinals from the group.
Haitian forward Sony Norde struck twice while Sohel Rana scored for the winners. Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba netted the consolation goal for the losers.
In the day's key match, Sheikh Jamal DC created strong pressure over their opponent from the very beginning.
Two Haitian forwards Wedson Anselme and Sony Norde sent the ball wide from advantageous position in the 13th and 14th minutes respectively.
In the 20th minute, Muktijoddha forward Eleta Kingsley carried a long ball in the danger zone, but shot the ball straight to Jamal goalie Ziaur Rahman.
Sony Norde put Sheikh Jamal DC ahead in the 51st minute as his cool shot, after playing one-two with midfielder Mamunul Islam, found the near far corner of the net (1-0).
Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba scored the equalizer for the freedom fighters team in the 64th minute by a placing shot from the middle of the danger zone, utilizing a Maruf Ahmed lob (1-1)
Sony Norde again put Sheikh Jamal DC ahead in the 86th minute scoring his second goal with a header, off a Linkon cross (2-1).
Sohel Rana completed the Sheikh Jamal tally in the injury time by his solo effort. Taking control of a Wedson long ball, he went past one defender and placed the ball the home (3-1).
