Sonia Khatun of Bangladesh clinched the women's section crown as unbeaten champion in the 1st SAARC International Deaf Chess Tournament held at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall room in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
Sonia earned maximum 3 points to clinch the title while Alifa Akhter (Bangladesh) finished runner-up bagging 2 points.
Naznin Akter (Bangladesh) placed third with 1 point and Anisha Shrestha (Nepal) placed 4th in all -play all- system four 4 players fray.
In the day's women section matches Sonia beat Alifa and Naznin defeated Anisha Shrestha.
Meanwhile, in the Men's section of the meet Obaidul Islam Shahin and Aminul Islam Lipon of Bangladesh took joint lead bagging maximum 3 points each after 3rd round games.
Suraj Kumar Shrestha (Nepal), Ali Newaz Sarker and Juwel Mia (Bangladesh) shared 2nd place securing 2 points each.
In the third round, Shahin beat Suraj, Lipon defeated Gurpreet Singh (India), Newaz beat Muhammad Suleman (Pakistan), Juwel beat Upul Shantha Dissanayake (Sri Lanka) and Javed Aslam Qureshi (Pakistan) beat Asanka Lankadeva (Sri Lanka).
