Soumya in Tigers' T20 WC plan

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha made it clear that Soumya Sarkar will be in his side's T20 World Cup plan after overcoming the mental barrier with a rollicking century in the second ODI against New Zealand, reports BSS.

In third ODI, which Bangladesh finally won by nine wickets to end their losing streak in this format on New Zealand soil, Soumya took three wickets before being retired hurt on batting.

But his 151 ball-169 that contributed Bangladesh's 58 per cent runs in second ODI, a game that Bangladesh lost by seven wickets, was the key in bringing him back in contention again.

Soumya was criticised vehemently following his poor and inconsistent form despite getting chance to prove his credential repeatedly. Even Hathurusingha was also blamed to give Soumya opportunity excessively. But the head coach said he had faith on Soumya's capability, which drove him to bet on him.

"Very happy with the way he (Soumya) performed and I always knew that he is capable of playing," Hathurusingha said.

"He has shown before when I was here and we all say that class is permanent.

Form affects many things, especially what goes through your head.

The more clear you are and the more you understand the role and the more comfortable you are with the environment, every player maximizes their potential. He is in good head space and there is no reason that he can't perform in the T20 World Cup," said Hathurusingha, making it clear that Soumya will be in Bangladesh T20 World Cup plan.

"The second ODI was like a make or break moment for him. What we did was that we trusted him and gave him confidence and the whole team trusted him. That's what I think he drove strength from," he concluded.
