South Zone lead by 369 runs, North Zone battle for third place

Title contender and also the league leader Prime Bank South Zone led by 369 runs against second slot holder in the points table Islami Bank East Zone on the third day in their four-day final round of the Bangladesh Cricket League at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong Tuesday, reports UNB.

In the day's play, Islami Bank East Zone resumed the first innings with overnight score of 159 runs for 3 wickets in 50 overs and piled up the score to 247 runs for all in 83.3 overs with number seven Abul Hasan scoring 50 runs off 82 balls featuring eight fours and one six on the third day.

Overnight opener Sadman Islam, who scored 86 runs for the side on the second day, finished his innings adding just one run. Sadman's 87 runs came off 193 balls involving 13 runs.

Another overnights batsman- cum -skipper Alok Kapali also failed to stay long as he added 2 runs to his previous score, was out for 20 runs, while number six Asif Ahmed (22) was the other player able to touch the double digit mark on the third day.

National star spinner Shohag Gazi captured four wickets for 62 runs in the first innings and Al Amin Hossain grabbed three wickets conceding 45 runs. Veteran national spinner -cum -skipper Abdur Razzak took two wickets for 73 runs in the innings while Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket for 41 runs.

Prime Bank South Zone (385 runs in the first innings) opened the second innings on the third day with an advantages of 138 runs lead and raised the lead margin to 369 runs scoring 231 runs for 4 wickets at stumps in 54 overs, spurred by an unbeaten fifth stand of 92 runs in 19 overs between Soumya Sarker and Mosaddek Hossain.

Soumya's team highest unbeaten 75 runs off 101 balls on the day involved seven fours and three sixes while opening batsman Anamul Haque played out 70 runs innings that came off 114 balls with 11 fours.

Mosaddek was batting on scoring 43 runs off 58 balls with two fours and three sixes while Shahrier Nafees hit 29 runs off 25 balls with six fours. Mithun (10) was the other scorers for the side.

Abu Jayed grabbed two wickets for 48 runs while Abul Hasan and Nazmul Apu took one wicket each conceding 14 and 58 runs respectively.

On the other hand, BCB North Zone are battling for the third slot in the four -team Bangladesh Cricket League as they trailed by 191 runs against Walton Central Zone in the second innings on the third day of the third edition of the final round of the league at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur Tuesday.

In the day's play, Walton Central Zone (289 runs in the first innings) resumed the second innings with overnight score of 20 for 2 in 12 overs and finished the innings at 200 in 83.1 overs with Mehrab Hossain Jr scoring the highest not out 54 runs off 190 balls involving six fours and one six.  Number seven Shuvagata Hom scored 36 off 71 with five fours while overnight batsman Mahmudullah, who hit a century of 113 runs for the side in the first innings, was dismally muted for 35 runs.

Marshal Ayub (30) and another overnight batsman Abdul Majid (29) were the other double digit scorers for the side.

Mahmudul Hasan grabbed four wickets for 53 runs while Mukter Ali and Taijul Islam took two wickets each for 36 and 73 runs respectively.  Nasir Hossain took one wicket for economic 7 runs and Delwar Hossain took one wicket conceding 18 runs.

BCB North Zone (287 runs in the first innings) opened the second innings on the third day from behind 202 runs and at stumps on 11 for 2 in 2 overs at the end of the day.

Mahmudul Hasan and batting Taijul Islam were batting on 8 and 0 runs respectively when the bails were drawn for the third day.

Shohid and Shuvagata Hom claimed one wicket each for 3 and 8 runs respectively while opener Zunaid Siddique out for 3 runs.
