Most of the senior cricketers yet again failed to acquire the required 11 points in the beep test, a method to determine the players fitness level, but still they are all set to play the National Cricket League (NCL) beginning October 10, reports BSS.
The players like Mohammad Ashraful, Abdur Razzak, Tushar Imran, Nasir Hossain, Rubel Hossain, for the second consecutive time couldn't touch the benchmark, set by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) who conducted beep test again on Sunday.
Selection panel member Habibul Bashar Sumon said the players would take part in the league but all of them would have to obtain 11 in beep test at some point of the NCL and they won't compromise with it.
Most of the players failed to get the required point in the first time when BCB conducted a beep test on October 1. But those players showed improvement to some extent that's why the selectors would give them another chance.
Ashraful who acquired 9.6 first time, got 10 in the second beep test.
Tushar Imran, Nasir Hossain improved their point to 10.1 from 9.5. Rubel Hossain gave the beep test first time and got 10. Off-spinner Sohag Gazi and pacer Mohammad Shahid obtained 9.8 and 5.9 respectively though Shahid was injured to some extent.
Veteran pacer Mohammad Sharif who got 9 in first beep test, this time touched the benchmark, scoring 11. Opener Imrul Kayes also got 11 while pacer Al-Amin Hossain struck highest 12.
BCB introduced the beep test in the NCL last year with the minimum requirement of nine points. However, the mark was increased to 11 points for the upcoming season.
BCB made beep test mandatory for all the players eyeing to take part in the NCL and in order to enhance the physical fitness they raised the benchmark for the beep test.
"As I told before that we have set 11 points as the minimum requirement but in some cases we will consider age, form and fitness. We won't give any benchmark and it will vary from person to person," national selector Habibul Bashar Sumon said on Sunday.
"As for example, Razzak won't get the result in the beep test like others and we need to consider these three things- form-fitness-age- for some of the cricketers," he added.
"They could not reach 11 points today and now Nannu bhai [chief selector] and I will decide how we will consider them," he said, adding that they need to touch the benchmark in future.
"But they have to pass the benchmark in future. They have to increase the fitness in the game. [They] have to give time sometimes in between the games of NCL," he said.
"It won't be possible to play in BCL [without achieving the required fitness mark]. I mean, we won't consider anyone in further tournaments after NCL who are unable to get the required points in beep test," he concluded.
