Sunny guides Biman

An all round performance by Elias Sunny enabled Bangladesh Biman to move into the final of the Public University & Services Cricket Tournament eliminating BUET by 65 runs in a rain-soaked semifinal at the Jahangirnagar University ground Saturday, UNB reports.
The day's other semifinal between Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University at BKSP ground in Savar remained unfinished because of heavy rains in the afternoon.
At JU ground, Opener Elias Sunny hammered 105-ball 102 runs with ten boundaries to guide national flag carrier Biman to score a moderate 284 runs for 8 in a reduced 49 over a-side match, after winning the toss.
Veteran national batsman Javed Omar (44), middle order batsman Hassanuzzaman (41), opener Ali Faiyaz (33) and Mushfiqur Rahman (13) were the other major contributors for Biman.
Mofizur Rahman grabbed three wickets for 33 runs while Shamim Ahsan took two wickets, also conceding 33 runs.
In reply, the revised target of BUET was re-fixed at 211 runs in 29 overs by Parabola Method due to rains. But they were all out for 145 runs in 26.5 over to be eliminated from the tournament.
For BUET, opener Himel (45), skipper Mofizur (25), Alok Kumar (15), Rocky (not out 13), and Rifat (11) were notable batsmen.
Elias Sunny, who hit a century scoring 102 runs, also displayed brilliance in bowling taking three wickets for just 16 in 4.5 overs and was adjudged man of the match.
Skipper Sanwar Hossain claimed four wickets for 37 runs in six overs.
In the other semifinal at the BKSP ground, Dhaka University were struggling with nine runs for two wickets in 3 overs when the match was stopped for heavy rains.
Earlier, Jahangirnagar University piled up a comfortable 232 for 8 in 50 overs after winning the toss.
The remaining part of the match will be held today (Sunday) at the same venue.
