Bangladesh experienced left-arm spinner Taijul Islam said on Monday that he is fully prepared to take up Test captaincy after playing international cricket for 10 years, reports Cricbuzz.
The question was raised after recently revealed that current all format skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto is not willing to lead the side after the ongoing home series against South Africa. It was understandable that the team management did not send Shanto for the pre-series presser to ensure the topic doesn't come up during the course of the series.
Shanto is waiting to have a conversation with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed to make a final call as he was appointed as the all format skipper for one year in February 2024 but different names are cropping as his possible replacement in different formats.
Taijul, who insisted that he is not aware whether Shanto wanted to quit from his captaincy post, added his name in the list. "I haven't heard anything on this matter (regarding Shanto quitting from captaincy) It's not part of our role, I'm not fully informed on this," Taijul told reporters at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.
