October 28, 2014 00:00:00

Left-arm orthodox Taijul Islam set new record in Bangladesh Test history as he broke the previous record of his fellow Shakib Al Hanan's taking eight wickets against Zimbabwe during the first Test held on Monday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, reports BSS.

Earlier, Shakib set the best bowling figure record for Bangladesh picking up seven wickets for 36 runs against New Zealand backed in 2008 in Chittagong.

In his immediate reaction Taijul said, "Thanks to everyone who supported me-- captain, support staff. I'll try to get better in the future. I am trying to adjust slowly since my debut in West Indies. I only wanted to support Mushy bhai in the Test and didn't want to do anything wrong."

Taijul sent Vusi Sibanda, Regis Chakabva, Sikandar Raza, Craig Ervine, Tendai Chatara, Elton Chigumbura, Tinashe Panyangara, Tafadzwa Kamungozi for 14, 10, 10, 25, 4, 0, 0 and 0 runs respectively, to finish his magical spell of eight for 39 runs in 16.5 overs at 2.31 economy rate.

Earlier, his best bowling Test figure was five wickets for 135 runs at 2.87 economy rate in Kingstown in the Bangladesh last away tour in West Indies on September 5 this year.
