Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has announced that he will make a decision regarding his career path after the upcoming session of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), reports UNB.

The BPL is scheduled to take place sometime following the next general election, slated for January 07, 2024.

Tamim held a meeting with high officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday.

Following the meeting, he called for a press conference at his residence in Dhaka and stated that he would determine his career direction after the conclusion of the BPL.

"I felt the need to come up with a decision about my future," Tamim said. "But due to other commitments of cricket officials, I have to wait until the BPL."

Tamim also mentioned that he plans to re-enter competitive cricket with the BPL, having been sidelined for months due to injuries. He missed the last Asia Cup and the World Cup due to the same reasons.

Having retired from cricket last year during a home series against Afghanistan, Tamim reversed his decision within 24 hours after discussing the matter with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. However, his return to cricket faced further delays due to long-standing injuries.

Meanwhile, President of the BCB Nazmul Hasan Papon said, "Two or three days ago, Tamim expressed his desire to meet. During our last conversation, he mentioned, 'I want to tell you many things,"

He continued to be elusive with his statement.

"I did not want to come to the board this time. People ask me if there is any pressure on me. I said no. Two reasons why I don't want to come to the board: firstly, I don't have much time, and secondly, I have to make decisions that people won't like," he said, yet again without clarity on the nature of these decisions.
