Hard hitting opening batsman Tamim Iqbal emerged as the proud owner of the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi in an innings in any format of international cricket Saturday, featuring many other records, reports UNB.
Tamim made the record breaking innings against Pakistan on the 5th and final day of the first Test at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna amid huge cheers from a full house crowd, surpassing the Mushfiqur Rahim's career-best 200 runs against Sri Lanka in Galle in March 2013.
With the day's feat, Tamim Iqbal also wrote his name in the history Test cricket with Mohammad Hafeez of Pakistan as opening batsmen from two teams have scored double centuries for the first time in the same match.
Bangladesh made their first draw against Pakistan in their 9th meeting in Test cricket scoring their 3rd highest 555-6 in the 2nd innings after making 638 runs against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2013.
Tamim Iqbal, a 26- year old left handed batsman from port city Chittagong, who scored his previous best 151 runs against India in Dhaka in January 24 in 2010, emerged as the first Bangladesh cricketer to score 3rd consecutive centuries in Test matches after making 109 runs each against Zimbabwe in Khulna and Chittagong Tests, November last year.
Tamim scored his career best 206 off 278 balls featuring 17 fours and a record seven sixes to become the 2nd highest scorer in Test making 2974 runs in 74 innings of 38 tests after Habibul Bashar Sumon's 3026 runs in 99 innings of 50 Tests.
